WOKHA, MARCH 20 (MExN): The monthly meeting of the Wokha District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) was held on March 20 chaired by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Wokha and Vice Chairman of DPDB, Vineet Kumar. The meeting saw the participation of various district officers, including new appointees in Wokha.

DC Vineet Kumar extended his welcome to all members and commended the efforts of frontline workers, volunteers, civil society organizations, and government departments for their collaborative work in managing the forest fire that broke out on March 17, 2025. He expressed gratitude for their timely intervention and stressed the importance of continued cooperation in future challenges.

In the meeting, Kumar also reviewed the previous DPDB meeting minutes, urging departments that have yet to submit their office land status to expedite the process. He informed that lands free of legal issues and those acquired through outright purchase should be initiated for acquiring land pattas.

Additionally, DC Wokha shared that a request has been made to the government for the purchase of smaller fire tenders. He also lauded the Medical Department for completing 100 days of the TB campaign and mentioned that the vision document on banana cultivation would be finalized by the next DPDB meeting.

A discussion was held regarding the ice plant at Doyang, constructed in 2012. Officials noted that the plant requires a constant power supply, but logistical challenges have prevented a reliable power source. In 2013, the plant was outsourced to a society, but the arrangement was not successful. It was decided that the matter would be brought to the attention of the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary of Nagaland.

Other key issues discussed included the approval for the establishment of Joyingo village under the Sanis sub-division, improvements to the football ground and construction of a rostrum at Bailey Baptist College, Wokha, as well as the construction of a Bailey bridge at Lanchuju River in Riphyim village, Wokha district. The formation of an Advisory Youth Council was also discussed.

The HIV/AIDS situation in the district was highlighted by an official, who reported that there are currently 395 HIV-positive cases registered in the ART (Anti-Retroviral Therapy) program, with 356 individuals receiving ART medication.

Additional updates were provided by the SDO (C), who gave a brief outline on human rights, and representatives from the Soil and Water Conservation and Land Resource Departments, who presented ongoing departmental activities and their future plans.
