Women's intangible contribution most important: DC Dimapur

Dimapur, March 8 (MExN): Joining the rest of the world,  Dimapur district administration in collaboration with the District Level Center for Women-Maha Shakti Kendra ( DLCW-MSK) Dimapur and Sakhi- One-stop  Center ( OSC) DImapur , celebrated International Women's Day on March 8 under the theme ‘Women in Leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 World.’

Special guest for the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Dimapur Rajesh Soundararajan, in his brief address, lauded women for being the best performers in any field. He noted that women's intangible contribution was the most important in any household and said, "Many a times, society takes the intangible contribution for granted but one should realise that the intangible contribution by women is contributing to the tangible outcomes." 

He also observed that women were not given their due rights in the past. However, he stated that over the years, good sense has prevailed in the society and with the efforts of rights based organisations women are gradually been given equal opportunities. This is a continuous movement which requires whole hearted approach, he said.

Appreciating the existence of equality for men and women in the Naga society, DC Soundararajan congratulated all the awardees and acknowledged the responsibilities shouldered by the women folk in the fight against COVID-19.

Marking the day, one female candidate each from various fields was nominated and the awardees were felicitated by the special guest.

From the administration, ADC Dimapur V Lovitoly Sema was awarded for shouldering the onerous responsibilities of managing and coordinating the efforts of DImapur district in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.

In the medical sphere, Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Antoly Suu was awarded for her contribution in health care setting and for being the backbone and consistent face of the medical department.

Other awardees included the officer-in-charge of Women Police Station Rose Yanthan for her relentless effort and services rendered in acquiring justice to women, protecting and preventing atrocities against women; Akumtila Longkumer for her achievements in the field of games and sports at National and State level; Hasna Kumar and Kikrusenuo for being the top female scorers in Dimapur district; Government Teacher (Science) Watimenla for her contribution towards girl child education; Geeta Kumari for her contribution towards health and sanitation for women at the grassroots level; and Zuchobeni Tungoe for being the only female contestant from North East India to make it to the top 15 of the VLCC Femina Miss India 2020. Lipokjungla Ozukum, Director and Co- Founder Ilando Services Private Limited was awarded in the local Female Entrepreneur category while Naga Women Hoho Dimapur was felicitated in the civil Societies category.

In the Non-governmental organization, the Missionaries of Charity Dimapur, affiliated to the Missionaries of Charity Kolkata was awarded for serving all people irrespective of caste or religion.

Shri Digamber Jain Girls' College Dimapur was also felicitated  for the Society's sincere concern and care for women education.
