A workshop on Book Writing was conducted under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao by Writers Collective in collaboration with the Kohima District Administration and District Hub for Empowerment of Women. The workshop was held as part of the Nagaland Literature Festival at the Capital Cultural Hall Complex Kohima on November 13 under the segment, “Journey of a Book” with Neikehienuo Mepfhuo, Vizovono Elizabeth and Vishü Rita Krocha as Resource Persons.
During the workshop, Moasunep K. Jingru, EAC (Dev), Kohima gave a brief background on the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” Campaign which started in the year 2015 nationwide. In Kohima, he said the campaign was initiated last year.
Highlighting that one of the objectives is to identify gender-biased sex selection, he said that in Nagaland we don't have that kind of issue. However, he noted that “we do have preferences happening in the society” in this regard. He also dwelt on the two aspects of the campaign which are to 'protect' and 'educate' the girl child.
On the book writing workshop, he spoke about the importance of writing while expressing that “Writing is a tool.” When you write your problem, he maintained that “50% of your problem is solved because you are able to structure and analyse your problem and when you write, you are able to put across your idea much better.”
He also emphasised that, “if you inculcate the habit of writing, it will take you a long way.”
During the workshop, Neikehienuo Mepfhuo dwelt on the various aspects of writing while Vizovono Elizabeth talked about the various stages of editing and the importance of having a book edited whole Vishü Rita Krocha highlighted the process of publishing a book.
A total of 60 students were part of the book writing workshop under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.
