WSSU against lifting of NLTP ACT

Dimapur, March 8 (MExN): The Western Sumi Students' Union (WSSU) today stated that it is strongly against the partial lifting of Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act, 1989.

The NLTP Act empowers the government to act and come out with detail and comprehensive strategy to curb this menace rather than partial lifting/lifting of this Act, the Union stated in a representation to the MLA & Advisor Sericulture, Excise and Minority Affairs Government of Nagaland.

“It will be unjust on the part of the government to barter the life of students’ community common public and future generation with state revenue. Not liquor, but many sector like Tourism/sports/Entertainment sector has been providing the highest revenue in other cities/ state/countries,” it noted.

In this connection, the WSSU’s representation appended by its president , A Kughato Achumi and general secretary, X Hinoka Chophi maintained that it would be a “vicious mistake for mature government to let the tower of Nagaland for Christ" fall down for a scanty state revenue.”
