WSSU condemns unchecked liquor sales in Nagaland

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 14 (MExN): The Western Sumi Students' Union (WSSU) has condemned the widespread sale of liquor and the unregulated operation of bars, discos, and lounges in Nagaland, despite the state's prohibition under the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act of 1989. In a statement, the WSSU said that "the unchecked distribution of alcohol persists," contributing to juvenile delinquency, particularly among underage students. The organization added that these activities negatively impact the well-being of young people and cause public disturbances.

"While many civil and religious organizations have remained silent, the WSSU has consistently opposed these antisocial activities," the statement read. The union also noted that as a student organization, its legal limitations prevent direct action, but it criticized the apparent inaction of government authorities and agencies. The WSSU warned that it "will not remain passive and will pursue further action" if the government and civil society organizations continue to stay silent on the issue.
