Y Patton welcomes bail for nuns, urges fair probe in case

Kohima, August 2 (MExN): Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton, who holds the Home and Border Affairs portfolio, on Saturday, welcomed the granting of bail to Sister Preethi Mary, Sister Vandana Francis, and Sukaman Mandavi in Chhattisgarh, while urging a fair and transparent investigation into the case. The three individuals were arrested on July 25 at Durg Railway Station, sparking concerns over conflicting narratives surrounding their detention.

Patton expressed apprehension over the matter and emphasised the need for the probe to be conducted impartially, with due respect for the rights and dignity of those involved.

“Any legal process must be based on facts and evidence, free from undue pressure or influence,” he said in a statement. Highlighting India’s democratic and secular philosophy, Patton stated that “every citizen has the right to practice their faith without fear.” He stressed that “allegations of this nature must be handled with utmost care, ensuring that no individual or community feels targeted or harassed.”
“I trust that the Chhattisgarh authorities will uphold constitutional values and ensure that justice prevails through due process,” he added.
