Despite Nagaland being considered as ‘insurgency/disturbed state’ by the outside world, Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio today said that young people coming together and doing positive things through their talents will change the narrative.

He was addressing the distribution ceremony of Column Speakers to TaFMA District Partners at the Chief Minister’s Residential Complex on Thursday evening. He said that the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted lives not only in Nagaland but the whole world and had prevented live shows and physical activities.

Lockdown, he added might have given them bad experiences but he also exuded hope that they have learnt good things and have come back with vigour and fresh ideas. He maintained that the musical talents of our youth have huge potentials and assured the support of the government in this regard. He urged upon the musicians to take it seriously and grow from strength to strength while also noting that “our society is educated but not civilized.”

However, he stated confidence that young people can progress further in the field of music. The Chief Minister also commended the Task Force for Music & Arts for taking the initiative to distribute music system to the district partners.

It may be noted that the initiative is aimed at powering TaFMA district partners to help talents at the grassroots level in all the districts. A total of 12 column speakers (Model: C21B Behringer company, Germany) were distributed to the empanelled district partners. Along with each speaker, they also received a microphone and a microphone stand.

For the remaining 4 new districts, TaFMA is currently in the process of identifying capable music groups/societies.

Mention may also be made here that 45% discount was given on each speaker by Beat Devices, a music store (owned by Kezhazelhou Ltu and based in Kohima) as part of their social responsibility initiative to support music and young talents across Nagaland while 55% of the cost of speakers was borne by TaFMA.

Advisor to TaFMA, Theja Meru said that the district partners can now hold a mini concert anywhere in the district while highlighting that the initiative was taken as a result of the lack of proper sound system in the districts. “We came up with the idea also to partner with local business,” he put across. He also thanked the Chief Minister for his unwavering support to the music fraternity.
