Zbto Govt College ‘deliberately weakened,’ alleges Sumi Hoho

ZUNHEBOTO, AUGUST 8 (MExN): The Sümi Hoho has accused the Department of Higher Education of showing “continued indifference” towards Zunheboto Government College, the lone government Arts college in the district, and demanded the immediate revocation of all faculty attachment orders from the institution.

In an open representation to Minister of Higher Education Temjen Imna Along, the organisation said the college, already facing limited faculty strength and high student enrolment, was being “deliberately weakened” by the transfer of teaching staff.

It said that despite a formal representation to the department on May 16, 2025, appealing for the revocation of faculty attachment orders from the college, “yet another Assistant Professor from the Department of History has now been attached out elsewhere.”

“Zunheboto district has neither Government Science nor Commerce colleges, and this lone Arts college, already grappling with limited faculty and high student enrolment, is being deliberately weakened. While other institutions are being strengthened, ours is being silently stripped of its essential staff,” the Sümi Hoho stated.

It questioned whether the department intended to shut down the college altogether. “This question now stands unavoidably before us. Repeated verbal assurances from your office and senior officials have so far resulted in actions that directly contradict your words,” it said, alleging that the department’s conduct reflected “a clear pattern of step-motherly treatment” which it described as “a serious affront to the Sümi Hoho and to the aspirations of the people of Zunheboto.”

The Sümi Hoho warned that if “this unjust and discriminatory treatment” continued, “the people of Zunheboto district will be compelled to take firm and democratic steps to defend their educational rights and hold the Department accountable.”

“This is not just an administrative matter. It is an issue of dignity, equality, and justice for a district that has been repeatedly sidelined,” it added.
