Peren, September 5 (MExN): The Zeliang Students’ Union (ZLSU) has extended its solidarity and support to the RMSA Teachers’ Association 2016 in their demand for immediate implementation of the prescribed pay scale, as directed by the courts.
In a statement, ZLSU noted that the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench, had on March 16, 2022, ruled in favour of the teachers on the issue of scale pay, a judgment later upheld by the Supreme Court of India on May 20, 2025. The apex court directed the Nagaland Government to release the entitled pay scale and arrears.
Despite this, ZLSU said the continued delay in implementation was “deeply disappointing and unjust,” adding that it has caused “immense hardship” to the teachers.
Calling teachers the backbone of education, the Union stressed that their rights must be respected and warned that denying them their dues amounts to contempt of court as well as injustice that undermines the future of students in the State.
The ZLSU urged the Government to act with “utmost seriousness” and implement the court’s ruling without further delay, stating that “justice repeatedly delayed is justice denied.” It also appealed to the authorities to immediately release the entitled pay scale and arrears to the RMSA 2016 batch teachers, thereby restoring faith in justice and safeguarding education in Nagaland.
