The District Health Society, Zunheboto, launched the Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan campaign along with the Poshan Abhiyaan at District Hospital, Zunheboto on September 17.
Dharam Raj, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Zunheboto, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. Speaking at the launch, DC Zunheboto highlighted that the initiative places women at its center, recognizing them as the cornerstone of every family and community. He described mothers as a divine gift, blessed with the capacity to nurture life, and emphasized that the well-being of women is essential to building stronger families and a healthier society. He further noted that the State and Central Government schemes introduced under this campaign are designed to empower women by ensuring access to quality healthcare and welfare benefits.
The DC urged health workers, ASHAs, and village functionaries to ensure that services reach every eligible beneficiary in both rural and urban areas. He also encouraged women to actively avail themselves of the services, emphasizing that these initiatives are not only for their personal well-being but also for the welfare of future generations. “Don’t ignore such programmes and schemes but rather take this as an opportunity as it is your right and avail it for your own good and for future benefits,” he concluded.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr Antoly Suu, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Zunheboto, emphasized on the crucial role of mothers as primary caregivers, that healthy mothers are the foundation of healthy families. She stressed that empowering women through accessible healthcare contributes directly to stronger and healthier communities.
This campaign aims to improve women’s health and strengthen family well-being through the saturation of health services. She further highlighted that as part of the campaign, a total of 49 health camps including general and specialist camps will be conducted across all health units in the district during the campaign period.
These camps will provide services under all vertical programmes, including anemia and adolescent health screening, immunization, screening for non-communicable diseases (NCDs), tuberculosis, vector borne diseases, NACO counselling, and mental health support.
She further highlighted the TB Ni-kshay Shivir, encouraging community participation, volunteering, and sponsorship to support TB patients. Additionally, Ayushman Bharat and CMHIS enrollment drives will be facilitated during the campaign to ensure wider access to flagship health insurance schemes. She also called upon the public to spread awareness and encourage maximum participation.
Representing the Social Welfare Department, Mughalu Awomi, District Coordinator Poshan Abhiyaan, and Ngvuito Awomi, District Coordinator PMMVY, stressed the importance of addressing obesity by reducing the intake of sugar, salt, and oil, promoting physical activity, and adopting healthier diets. They also introduced the Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi initiative, which aims to strengthen Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) through play-based learning and parental involvement.
Stating that our land is so rich and pure and we should promote consuming organic products rather than consuming the market products they might look appealing which is not good for our health. The DHEW officials stated that their vision is to save girl child and educated girl child and highlighted that both gender are equally important and we should not discriminated among them, they have conducted skill development course and programme such as driving class, computer class, and basket making class and plantation drive at Nikuto Village and acknowledge the doctors in helping the mothers during the data entries.
The programme was chaired by Dr Josia Sema, ENT Specialist, District Hospital Zunheboto, invocation prayer by Ghovili, GNM, while vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Tovika Yepthomi, Senior Specialist, District Hospital Zunheboto.
The event was attended by representatives from civil society organisations, Social Welfare Department and Medical Department.
