The district administration of Zunheboto today informed that the police force in VK Town under the district has been strengthened following the burning of a government-registered vehicle used by the Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) of the area by unknown miscreants on June 19.

While investigation needs sufficient time and is currently in progress, the administration has also bolstered the police and IR forces in the area, Deputy Commissioner Zunheboto, Rahul Mali told The Morung Express.

"We are inspecting the supply of liquor as there is no primary suspect identified yet, and it is suspected that the miscreants could be drunkards," Mali added.

In connection with the incident, the DC said that he also met with civil bodies of the area, including GBs, Dobashis, and NGOs, on Tuesday.

The DC further mentioned that similar incidents occurred last month in the district, including the burning of the house belonging to an ex-MLA by unknown individuals, as well as the burning of two agriculture farms.

Meanwhile, the police informed this newspaper that they received a call on Sunday night, around 11.07 pm. However, the exact time of the incident could not be determined as the EAC was unaware of the fire.

The vehicle was parked below the residence of the EAC, approximately 50 ft away, in a makeshift parking area.

Currently, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident, added the police.
