
Jakhama | August 28 : The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has resolved to vehemently check on the nepotism, favoritism and injustices prevalent in the society. This was resolved during its 15th biennial general conference that concluded this evening at St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama. The Union also resolved to uphold the “Dignity of Labour” and to conduct more awareness programme. It also resolved to approach the government /university and colleges to introduce vocational courses in the college level.
The conference also resolved to conduct seminar on quality education for better scope of employment.
The Union resolved to uphold its motto “Unity is Strength” by all its members irrespective of the various tribes and spreading awareness about ANCSU objectives. In another development, all membership fee of ANCSU to be collected through the joint bank account to be operated by the president, general secretary and finance secretary.
Earlier, gracing the valedictory session, Nagaland’s chief secretary Lalthara urged the students to rediscover the value on which dignity of labour is based on. He challenged the students to change their attitude towards labour and at the same time urged the students not to shy away from manual work stating that many of our youth tend to withdraw from manual labour.
The Chief Secretary said that state government has huge budget towards construction sector and challenged the youth to seriously ponder on this matter in term of employability. Touching on the conference’s theme “Education and Employability,” Lalthara said that quality education plays a vital role in getting good job opportunities. He however said even in our present education system, it does not always promise us employment. “We should not only improve the quality of education but education should be vocational oriented as well,” he asserted.
He also encouraged the students to follow the simple way of living which is much easier. Asserting that we have a responsibility to change our life style and how we think to bring a change in the society he said “because of our greed and the chase for luxury we have gone far away from what God intended us to be.”
He was appreciative of ANCSU’s resolutions which emerged at the conference, saying that he was encouraged by the student community expressing their desire for reformation in the society.
“Let us join hands and work together to remove all corruption in the society so that we can have a beautiful Nagaland of our dreams,” he added. The Chief Secretary while congratulating the new team of office bearers also wished them wisdom and patience so as to complete their tenure successfully.
During the devotional session, ANCSU has collected Rs. 17, 504 as part of offering towards Eden Garden Orphanage, Khuzama. Shan Kikon, pastor Faith Harvest Church Kohima was the main speaker at the devotional session.
