Are the roles of men and women in present Naga society fundamentally unequal or complementary? Give Reasons

Complementary:
•    The roles of men and women in present Naga society are traditionally unequal but increasingly complementary due to social change, education, and the growing political participation of women. In recent years, educational achievements among girls, reflected in the results of the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE), show increasing empowerment. This progress is gradually translating into leadership roles. For instance, Hekani Jakhalu and Salhoutuonuo Kruse became the first women elected to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly in 2023, while S. Phangnon Konyak became the first woman from Nagaland to be elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2022. Women also spearhead the textile and handicraft sector, which forms an important part of Nagaland's local economy.
•    True equality would be a nightmare. We were made to complement each other's strength and cover up each other's weaknesses. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
•    When you see it from the Naga viewpoint, the roles men and women played are complementary. They always go hand in hand. It was not possible for villages and communities to survive without assuming complementary roles. With modern culture rapidly eroding Naga society, this complementary role is being lost and is now replaced by modern roles which are unequal.
•    Women have equal liberty with men in all aspects from socio-economic, political, educational, religious participation. The establishment of mothers association or unions which have an equal voice in every important societal matters with other main societal bodies . There is no blockade form societal/family pressure for any women to do what she desire to achieve instead they are supported. Naga society as a Christian majority state have shaped the perspective and beliefs of the people which view men or women as fearfully and wonderfully created so there is no discrimination because of gender but instead men and women are taught to complement each other in life.

Unequal:
•    Fake gender equality movement, why Men are not been represented or left out. As long as men are been left out ,say why not so much warm and hype for International men's day or even international boy child day, that means women and girls cannot never become empowered or equality Unless the concept of equality is changed. The society will always be male dominated because of that, will be inequality will rise for women And girls if focus is not one males towards for men and boys.
•    In comparison, women outperforms men in almost every field with the switching of education. But being a patriarchal society, we Naga still hesitate to accept the fact based on performances. Our society never wish to forgo the notion of male superiority which is very much in practice till date. So, unless we correct this mindset, the root will still remain intact.
•    In Nagaland the society is hugely influenced by the church. Many of the churches in rural and urban areas we see the decision of the church are in the autonomy of the Male leaders and the roles assigned are quire varied. We are living in a time where we are in a transition of women joining the workforce from a traditional household responsibilities but it also comes with its set of challenges. I choose "unequal" now but hopefully in the next 10 years i will have something different to say.
•    Naga society is slowly changing but the existence of customary laws limit women in partaking in decision-making. Naga society, to date, does not allow women to head the village council though capable. The Naga customary laws give more power to men for decision-making, be it in their own family or in society at large. We could change that but allowing women to equally take part in decision-making alongside men, ensuring a society where men and women complement one another.
•    Roles of men and women seem complementary and is true for most part. However, in areas like property and in the functioning of hohos/bodies, there is little or no room for women are therefore fundamentally unequal in these areas.

Others:
•    Heavily complementary but also lot of ground to be made on the equality side. Women are conspicuously absent from decision making bodies and positions of power. Sure, women's or mother's associations exist and garner strong support and exert considerable influence but a lot of ground to still be covered in the apex bodies, government and especially at the local level in villages and colonies
•    If women want equal opportunity in anything, they should also not assume the role of Men. Say since he is s male he should help a women in need, he should be the driver of a car, truck automobile, he should be a construction worker, he should be an electrician, etc. Women too need to come out of the mindset of gender role assumption for males. Women should start going for such male dominated job roles either with interest or not like carpenter, electrician, etc - if not women should stay in kitchen and cooking and clean
•    This is a question many people avoid discussing important questions like this. Will be interesting to see how many people respond.
•    I think majority of the people will agree that the relationship between Naga men and women in the present society needs to be redefined. But this cannot be done with an attitude of aggressiveness. The relationship also cannot be done through imposition of western feminism.
•    These are questions no one is willing to talk about it openly. This is a concern. We need to be able to interact on such important questions facing our society. The NBCC and other churches should begin talking about such questions.
