Assembly resolution lacks political will to implement solution: NPCC

Dimapur, February 20 (MExN):  The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Saturday said that the resolution of the Nagaland State Assembly is an expression of lack of political will to implement political solution.

Its intent to delay is crystal clear, it stated while adding that the State Assembly has failed to understand the contents of the Agreements signed on August 3, 2015 and the Agreed Position reached on November 2017, “as they did not read word by word and line by line to understand the impact upon the stakeholders they represent.”  Therefore, they have no suggestion for solution, the NPCC stated.

Further, the NPCC stated that the Governor could not find support from the State Assembly as the resolution is an expression of mistrust of the Governor’s statement that talks have concluded,”

“Had the resolution pressed for implementation of solution giving support to the Governor and Interlocutor, the solution was bound to be implemented,” NPCC President K Therie stated in a statement on Saturday.

He further stated that it was illogical for resolution to be urging the Governor to be talking again after he said “talks have concluded.”

He also questioned as to what is left to talk when the Government of India has made it ‘loud and clear’ on what is negotiable and what is not. “The stakeholders have also made clear what is acceptable and what is not acceptable to the Interlocutor,” he added.

Referring to late P V Narasimha Rao, the then Prime Minister of India who said “If you want peace, it has to grow in your heart. I can give you development but I cannot grow peace in your heart,” the NPCC President said that “We cannot underestimate neighbour Nagas for they are capable and are more efficient in making self determination.”

The Political Affairs Committee of NPCC has read the 213th Report of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Union Home Affairs and has also examined the Framework Agreement in depth, he said while adding that they have also read the agreed positions between GOI and NNPGs.

After examining ‘political and economic angles’, the NPCC stated that, “Considering the present format of agreements and agreed positions, Congress expects the impacts will be beneficial to the stakeholders.”

In this regard, the NPCC stated that they have taken up the same with AICC for support in Parliament.

The NLA resolution is against the wish and aspirations of the people, it stated while adding that the Tribal Hohos, NGBF, Churches and NGOs have stood upright without fear and prejudice.  The NPCC President stated that the “Congress stands with the stakeholders.”
