The Nagaland Government has decided to revoke the controversial order concerning the ‘absorption’ of Assistant Professors and Librarians under the State’s Higher Education Department, amid continued protest over the issue.

The decision was taken during a State Cabinet meeting held on April 30, Government Spokesperson and Minister KG Kenye informed during a press conference in Kohima.

However, there is no official update yet on the separate demand by the Combined Technical Association of Nagaland (CTAN) and the Nagaland NET Qualified Forum (NNQF) for requisition of vacant posts to the Nagaland Public Service Commission.

The development comes a day after two separate protests—one by the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) and the other by CTAN and NNQF—converged at the Directorate of Higher Education (DHE) in Kohima. Minor altercations were reported during the demonstrations.

Earlier on Tuesday, the main gate of the DHE was reportedly locked by NSF protestors during their agitation. Meanwhile, CTAN and NNQF continued their sixth day of peaceful protest at the site.

While the NSF launched its protest on April 29, CTAN and NNQF have been demonstrating for sixth day. Both groups have denounced the government’s orders on contractual appointments in Higher Education, terming them a violation of merit-based recruitment.

This is a developing story and more details are awaited.
