Peren, February 23 (MExN): ATMA Peren Ahthibung block conducted block activities at Pineapple and Piggery farm school in Pellhang and Inbung village on February 5 and 6. 

Dr Babita Devi, Senior Scientist & KVK Peren Head (i/c), Orenthung Odyuo BTT Convenor, Isapeule Agri. Inspector and ATMA functionaries were the resource persons.

Dr Babita briefly taught the farmers on the care and management of new born piglets so as to prevent infection & reduce the mortality of young piglets. The farmers were briefed with Instructions like how to treat the navel cord, what feed and supplements to be provided; Importance of colostrum was made aware. Later, Dr Babita demonstrated how to administer intravenous injection of supplements to the piglets.

This was followed by a demonstration of neem leaf extract preparation by ATMA functionary Lireni Lotha, ATM with the help of locally available neem leaves. While a step by step demonstration on how to prepare Bordeaux mixture, an organic fungicide was performed by Lhaihoichong BTM.

Orenthung, BTT Convener Ahthibung block gave demonstration on contour trenches to conserve the rainwater and reduce soil loses from surface and erosion. 

Isapeule, Agri Inspector demonstrated on natural fertilizer ‘Jeevamrutham’ which is an excellent organic fertilizer that boosts the plant growth and gives good yield. Later, Keneingunuo Sorhie, ATM Ahthibung Block conducted demonstration on inter culture operation on pineapple advising the farmers regarding proper maintenance of weeding, mulching, earthing up etc for better production. 

Altogether 40 farmers attended the programme. Farm inputs such as supplements for the piglets, neem oil, copper sulphate and lime to prepare the Bordeaux mixture and hand sprayer were equally distributed to the farmers present.
