Zunheboto, April 23 (MExN): The ATMA Tokiye Block Zunheboto organised demonstration programmes at various villages, on February 18 and 26.
Kanato Sumi ATM conducted a demonstration at Aghunato town on the topic ‘Demonstration on nursery seed bed preparation and cultivation of chilli’. He presented the nursery seed bed using seed trays by using coco peats and compost as seed base and raised seed bed methods were also imparted to the farmers.
On the same day, Lahovi (Cardamom Farmer, Aghunato) made a presentation under the topic ‘Post-harvest processing of large Cardamom’. He explained the importance of good post-harvest management practices in cardamom and also demonstrated on the use of post-harvest machines.
‘Demonstration on insect pest control practices in vegetable crops’ was also disseminated by the use of various organically available items such as garlic, chilli solutions to control pests and the uses of neem oil.
On February 26, Ika kinnimy ATM spoke on ‘Demonstration on handling and working efficiency of maize sheller’ at Tsukomi village. He demonstrated the benefits of using maize sheller over traditional hand methods by involving some farmer participants.
On the same day, ‘Demonstration on package and practice of sweet corn’ was conducted where different inter-cultural operations and raised seed bed methods were also practically demonstrated. ‘Demonstration on package and practice in beans: stalking and trellising methods’ was given. The different methods of trellis and stalking for beans were demonstrated in the farm school.
A total of 40 farmers attended the programme.
