Bailey Bridge caves in Dimapur

Morung Express News
Dimapur | April 24

Dimapur has reported another bridge-fail incident. This time, however, it was not a case of neglect and also did not belong to the State government.

The bridge was reportedly a temporary single-lane Bailey bridge over the Chathe River in New Chümoukedima, built by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), upstream of the PHE’s drinking water project, as per State PWD sources.

NFR authorities could not be reached for comment but it was said to have been purpose-built to aid in the Dhansiri-Zübza rail line project.

According to the sources, the deck of the bridge folded as two trucks, loaded with sand, were making their way across in the afternoon, Saturday. At the time of filing this report, one of the trucks was pulled out. Casualty, if any, could not be ascertained.
