BBBP orientation prog held in Khonoma

Kohima, November 15 (MExN): The Kohima District Administration, in collaboration with the District Hub for the Empowerment of Women, Kohima, organized an orientation and sensitization Programme under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) on November 15 in Khonoma.

In his welcome address, Tiayanger Jamir, SDO (C), Sechü Zubza, gave a brief explanation of BBBP, stating that it was introduced in India due to the patriarchal system where women are neglected, which was a significant reason. Jamir urged the community to give equal rights, equal attention, and an equal platform to women.

Also speaking on the occasion, Dr Teputo, Medical Officer, Khonoma, shared insights on “Sexual Health, Menstrual Health, and Mental Health” and stressed that not only a healthy body but also a healthy mind is essential for the overall development of the individual. In cases of depression, anxiety, and other mental issues, he advised the students to seek help and stressed that the stigma associated with mental health and menstrual health should be removed from society.

Viliezonuo Rhetso, Advocate-cum-Panel Lawyer, Kohima DLSA, highlighted the POSCO Act and its various aspects, such as the definition of offenses, reporting of offenses, lodging FIRs, counseling, etc. She emphasized the "best interests of the child" as a primary factor to be considered while dealing with sexual offense cases against children.

Highlighting the Sukanya Samriddhi Account Scheme (SSY), Sohile Tep, District Coordinator, Poshan Abhiyaan, said that SSY is intended for the girl child’s education and marriage. She also highlighted the eligibility criteria, age limit, where to apply, required documents, interest rates, etc.

Speaking on the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana Scheme, Vimenu Richa, DEO for PMMVY, DHEW, Kohima, explained at length the objectives of the scheme, eligibility, documents required, and where to apply. The vote of thanks was given by the Chairman, Khonoma Village.

Sanitary pads were also distributed under Project Baala, an innovative menstrual health solutions provider that aims to ensure that every woman and girl can have access to affordable and sustainable menstrual hygiene solution.
