
The Centre has released details of the total extent of funds allocated to Nagaland from 2008-2009 to 2011-2012 as impetus to implement a number of urban poverty alleviation programs in the state. The details also comprise the number of man-days of work generated during the stated fiscal years till 2010-2011. Likewise, the government of India has also released details of what it called the “financial progress” of two components of the much-hyped Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
The Centre released the financial details about Nagaland specific to the Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana (SJSRY), a scheme launched in 1997, which envisages providing gainful employment to the urban unemployed or underemployed through the setting up of self-employment ventures or provision of wage employment.
The other report is on the two chief components of the JNNURM project, the Basic Services to Urban Poor (BSUP) and Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme (IHSDP). All the reports also highlight financial allocations to other states in the country.
The statement showing state-wise budget allocation made under the SJSRY during each of the last three years and the current year shows that Nagaland state received Rs. 286.11 lakhs (2008-2009), Rs. 277.13 lakhs (2009-2010), Rs. 269.06 lakhs (2010-2011) and Rs. 269.06 lakhs for 2011-2012.
Funds under SJSRY are released to states as a whole, without segregating into components, thereby giving flexibility to them in utilizing funds.
The report also showed state-wise number of man-days of work generated under the Urban Wage Employment Programme (UWEP) component of SJSRY during each of the last three years. According to the report, Nagaland generated 0.19 lakhs man-days or work in 2008-2009, 0.38 lakhs man-days of work in 2009-2010 and in 2010-2011 Nagaland generated 0.99 lakhs man-days of work under the scheme’s component.

Nagaland received a 7-year allocation for the two components a total of Rs. 149.74 crore out of which Rs. 109.12 Crore was realized. Out of the amount, Nagaland utilized Rs. 60.50 Crore. The figures are till August 25, 2011.
