Citizens furnish report of more backdoor appointments

Dimapur, August 4 (MExN): Nagaland’s infamous culture of “backdoor appointments”, in the government’s departments, continues to throw up graft. Concerned citizens today furnished documents and government orders stating shady appointments in the departments of Education (SCERT), Public Health Engineering and Women Development.
Two citizens issued a letter today, addressed to the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), alleging 30 high-level appointments to levels no less than class-I gazette officer and one class-II gazette officer within three years. These appointments were made ‘without requisition’ from the Nagaland Public Service Commission, the letter, appended by a Kiyezhe and one Ikato stated. Accompanying the letter were 11 Xeroxed documents of government orders and notifications from the stated three departments. Six orders were from the Education (SCERT) department, four from the PHED and one from the department of Women Development.  These departments have been randomly “indulging” in ‘backdoor appointments’ of class-I and II gazette-level officers, the letter said.
The government orders and documents show 31 appointments in the SCERT, 14 in the PHED and three in Women Development. The appointments include those made to the DIET, class-I gazette officers, class-I and class-II gazette lecturers and teachers, class-II gazette junior engineers and officers.
“The details furnished and materials enclosed are only a tip of the iceberg where the NSF educated unemployed and intellectual Nagas need to ponder upon and pursue the matter if we are truly serious enough to unearth and root out the menace of backdoor appointment in Nagaland,” the concerned citizens stated.
