The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) today called upon all sections of the people to come together under the spirit of unity, brotherhood and oneness to work towards strengthening the ongoing peace talks “so that all stakeholders contribute towards an early conclusion to the negotiations.”

“The NDPP continues to support the desire of the Naga people to live as one and reiterate our support for the integration of all contiguous Naga areas under a single administrative unit,” the party stated in an eight-point resolution adopted during its 4th General Convention here on Tuesday.

The NDPP appreciated the Government of India and all negotiating parties for resuming the ongoing Indo-Naga political talks that had been stalled for some time, while reiterating its stance for an early resolution to the decades-old issue. It also appealed to all the negotiating parties to expedite the ongoing negotiations and bring an early solution that is democratic, honorable and acceptable to the people.

Welcomes opposition-less UDA government

The NDPP welcomed the formation of the opposition-less United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in the spirit of encouraging the Naga National Political Groups to unite and come as one to bring about a common solution to the Indo-Naga issue.

“The NDPP reaffirms its support to the UDA in its role as an active facilitator in the on-going peace process,” the resolution stated.

The NDPP urged the state government to ensure all round development that will reach all corners of the state, with the aim to accelerate and develop all sectors of the government. In this regard, it laid special emphasis on the health sector considering how the world struggled to battle the COVID- 19 pandemic.

It also urged the state government to consider positive reforms that will enable economic growth, create employment opportunities, attract external investment, enhance tourism potentials and promote brand Nagaland in a progressive manner to the national and international community.

It also urged the state government to consider and institute a flagship programme for the farmers of the state considering that “we are an agrarian society.”

Further, the party urged the state government to continue its exercise in ensuring the empowerment of youth and the student community by creating conducive job opportunities and providing employment based on meritocracy.

“While standing up for regionalism, the party will make all efforts in positively contributing towards the nation building process and taking Nagaland into the global forum to achieve our declared aspiration of “Change is coming” under the unstinted motto of ‘Facta non Verba,’ the resolution stated.

State yearns for economic, sustainable development

The resolution, which was unanimously adopted at the convention, stated that the NDPP was established with the vision of reflecting and protecting regional identity with a national outlook which is conducive with the changing times in the global context.

“Today, the world has become a global village and the people of Nagaland too have an aspiration and a yearning for economic and sustainable development that is at par globally,” it stated adding that with changing scenarios and different realities, it is now time to pursue the Naga aspirations through roadmaps that are universally appreciated and in tune with the ethos of humanity and mutual respect.

“There is a burning ambition amongst our people to get recognition and find our own footing in the changed environments of the regional, national and international realities in the pursuit of success and excellence. The NDPP has been established as a political party to help promote, establish and push forward the aspirations of the people,” it stated.

The resolution stated that the NDPP symbol of the ‘globe’ signifies its commitment to lead the people into the global forum with its motto as its stepping stone towards meritocracy, youth empowerment, gender equality, farmers’ welfare, transparency, accountability and good governance.
