Dimapur, August 22 (MExN): A section of teacher in the state, the Aggrieved Teachers Association of Nagaland (ATAN) today admitted that all the government departments in Nagaland have “practiced the system of employing without proper interview or routing through recruitment guidelines.” Stating this fact, the association demanded ‘equal yardstick’ by ‘scanning’ all the departments.
Calls for equality; demands probe into all departments
“All the departments in Nagaland have practiced the system of employing without proper interview or routing through recruitment guidelines. Hence, all the departments should be scanned by a proper constituted verification committee to treat all the employees of Nagaland state with the same yardstick,” the ATAN said in a press release today. ATAN’s working president Yetoho and general secretary Limayanger appended the press release.
The ATAN said it has no intention ‘to go against any government functionaries or any particular group.’ “The ATAN’s main goal is to retain job, upon which we depend for a living and had chosen to be our profession long time back. We highlighted the anomalies in the SIT report in the form of a Representation, Dated 7th Sept, 2010 and also discussed with the government functionaries as to why the report should not be implemented. At the same time, Cabinet in their own wisdom had constituted State Verification Committee and thereafter, came to a conclusion to constitute the Departmental Verification Committee and the Cabinet understanding the report had approved and the result was declared in media as a follow up policy to accommodate all the numbers…” the ATAN said.
However, the association stated that it was “unfortunate on the part of the Commissioner & Secretary of School Education for “not consulting the Cabinet, for filling up RMSA/SSA vacancies.” As a result, the association claimed, student unions questioned the Cabinet “without understanding the ground realities.” “Now that the silence of ATAN is misunderstood by many groups and individuals and threatening us as an unwanted element having no right to be employed in the Education department. But in reality, the department/government would have terminated us if our employment was not legitimate,” the association said.
Everyone interested or affected by “our issue should understand that some members who fall under the same category have been cleared and are continuing in their service which in numbering to 556,” it explained further. “Therefore, every teacher who falls under same category should be treated equally.”

NMA demands termination of all bogus/illegal teachers
Dimapur, August 22 (MExN): The Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) makes clear today that the state government must prove “its commitment” to the cause of the future of the young and terminate all bogus teachers in the School Education department. The NMA said that the government must take decisive steps to act against those “found guilty” and ‘irrespective of connections, tribe or otherwise, and penalize all wrong doers as per the law.’ As part of the stance that the NMA has taken, the association is convening an emergency meeting of the NMA Education Committee consisting of prominent academicians, on August 25 to discuss the report of the Vigilance Commission’s Special Investigation Team on ‘bogus teachers’ and related matters.
“We urge the state government, including the state Cabinet, to prove its commitment to the future of our children by taking decisive steps to immediately terminate all those found guilty, irrespective of connections, tribe or otherwise, and penalize all wrong doers as per the law,” a statement from the NMA receive here stated. NMA chief Abeiu Meru and Secretary Lochumbeni Humtsoe appended the statement.
The Naga Mothers Association expressed deep concern at the serious issue of ‘bogus’ teachers, fake certificates of teachers and bogus appointment orders in the department of School Education in the state.
“Teachers are highly respected in our society because they are the moulders (sic) and builders of our nation. But the rate of corrupt practices that exists within this state education system is mind boggling as per the report of the Special Investigation Team of the State Vigilance Commission, which has been carefully studied by the NMA,” the NMA said. “As mothers who are very concerned for the future of our students and children, we reiterate that we cannot compromise on such criminal activities.”
The NMA has urged accountability and decisions from the government that would not open ways to confrontation. “We also urge the state to address the grievances of genuine teachers and avoid unpleasant confrontations. The rights of citizens or teachers to peacefully protest and air grievances in a democratic country must be allowed without provocative steps from either side,” the NMA said.
The NMA informed that it would be submitting an official representation to the Government of Nagaland after decisions taken in the August 25 meeting.
