DCCI on abduction and transport strike

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 5 (MExN): Expressing serious concern over abduction of school children for ransom in the commercial hub Dimapur, the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) has called for stronger security mechanism to check the menace.
The DCCI urged school authorities, teachers, parents and student unions to come out openly and condemn such crimes, which has created fear psychosis and disturbed the academic environment in most educational institutions.  DCCI also appealed to all right thinking citizens to condemn such unhealthy trends and join hands with law enforcing agencies.
Interacting with a section of media on Monday, DCCI president Hokivi Chishi said that so far children of non-Naga businessmen have been the victims. But if such trend continues, the day is not far off when even children of Nagas would not be spared by anti-social elements for their selfish gains, Hokivi said. The DCCI president further appealed to various Naga ‘national workers’ to check such anti-social elements.
Meanwhile, DCCI also condemned the September 2 incident wherein two miscreants riding a motorcycle without registration number came and fired upon the manager of M/s TS Goods Carrier, Kalibari Road, resulting in the indefinite strike called by the Dimapur Goods Transport Association (DGTA).
In regard to this, the DCCI convened an emergency meeting with office bearers of DGTA at DCCI office, Monday afternoon.
In the meeting DCCI members led by president Hokivi Chishi appealed DGTA to call off the indefinite strike, in the interest of the general public and business community.
Hokivi said that since the transporters are the lifeline of all business activities, an indefinite strike would paralyze all business activities besides bringing immense hardship to the public.
He also urged police to remain vigilant on miscreants using unregistered vehicles to commit crimes.
