Dimapur, August 18 (MExN): The Dimapur Congress today surfaced with allegations that funds amounting to rupees five crore and seventy lakhs for year 2010-2011 for the development of Dimapur town’s roads have been siphoned off. “The pathetic condition of the roads in Dimapur town is the proof…” the Dimapur District Congress Committee said in a statement released to the media today. With the statement were also details of work programs and funds sanctioned for new and ongoing developmental works for the district.
The department of Public Works Department (Roads & Bridges) of Dimapur division was sanctioned Rs. 570 lakhs for the year 2010-2011 for development of Dimapur town’s roads, the DCC stated. The statement as appended by DCC president Kughato S Aye and vice president H Kisheto Chishi. “Out of the total amount, Rs 300 lakhs (three crore) was released in the month of June-July 2011 but it is learnt that without executing the works the money has been siphoned off”, it was alleged.
Further, informing the public and village authorities to be vigilant, the DCC highlighted the budget provisions for various developmental works for the year 2010-2011 for Dimapur district. “To ensure proper and judicious execution of project mentioned in the programme for various new and ongoing works under Dimapur district, the members would physically verify the spot within a month or two to identity the works undertaken by the concern department and contractors,” the DCC stated.
The DCC provided details in documents about the estimates and approval of Rs. 3461.04 lakhs and Rs 3423.29 lakhs for new and ongoing works for Dimapur alone during 2010-2011. “In every financial year crores of funds are provided from Centre as centrally sponsored scheme and state ear-marked budget but it hardly serves the purpose meant for public welfare and remain only in the file,” the Congress unit said.
Had the NPF-led Democratic Alliance of Nagaland government truly had concern for the public and its welfare, the DCC stated, Nagaland would have been different “like our immediate neighboring states.”
