Dimapur, March 26 (MExN): The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has cautioned that “any individual or organization found aiding or sheltering illegal immigrants will be held accountable for any untoward incidents arising thereof,” and stated that it “will not hesitate to expose such elements before the public and will take all necessary actions to ensure justice.”
It also directed concerned construction and labour organizations to “strictly monitor and regulate their workforce,” adding that “failure to comply will compel DNSU to step in, monitor independently, and take stringent action against defaulters.”
Further, it appealed to the administration to “intensify surveillance and strictly monitor the entry, movement, and stay of construction workers and labourers entering Dimapur on a daily basis.”
The DNSU urged all individuals and organizations to “immediately cease such practices” and called on them to “ensure strict monitoring of the movement and duration of stay of all non-local workers and make it mandatory for them to obtain proper ILP registration.”
Raising what it described as a “growing and grave threat,” DNSU said there is a “continuous influx of illegal immigrants entering Nagaland via Assam under the pretext of construction and labour work.”
It noted that “Dimapur, in particular, is witnessing a rapid increase in such cases, where individuals enter without ILP and remain beyond their permitted duration, eventually settling permanently.”
According to the union, “this unchecked influx poses a significant risk to the demographic balance and security of the indigenous population.” It also “strongly condemns any individual or organization that, for monetary gain, facilitates or provides shelter to such illegal immigrants, thereby endangering the future of the Naga people.”
The DNSU maintained that “genuine non-locals should not face unnecessary harassment or inconvenience,” while adding that “distinguishing between genuine non-locals and illegal immigrants is only possible through the proper enforcement of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system.” It further stated that “the ILP serves a greater purpose in protecting the rights and identity of the citizens of Nagaland,” and that its success depends on “transparency, accountability, and collective efforts from all sections of society, along with the Government.”
DNSU stated that it “shall not rest and will persistently fight against the alarming influx of illegal immigrants into Dimapur,” and added that it has “time and again… actively raised awareness regarding the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system” and has “consistently urged the administration and the Government to ensure its strict and effective implementation in Dimapur.”
The DNSU reiterated that it “stands firm in its unwavering commitment to the welfare, growth, and future of students in particular, and the Naga community in general,” and that it “will continue to work tirelessly and take every necessary step to safeguard the rights and interests of the indigenous people,” adding that it “remains resolute in its mission to protect the rights, identity, and future of the Naga people.”
