Dimapur, November 27 (MExN): The Eastern Nagaland Pre-Service Teachers Association (ENPSTA) has brought to the notice of the Education Minister the loophole in the present trend of recruitment of primary and elementary school teachers, and put forth several demands for the same.
In a letter addressed to the Education Minister of Nagaland, the association stated that there was no tangible and concrete Teacher Recruitment Policy in existence, as proposed by the National Council for teachers Education (NCTE) and National Goal of Universal Elementary Education (UEE), to introduce the Pre Service Teachers Education (PSTE) training of two years’ duration under the State Board of Teachers Education (SBTE).
Lamenting the inability of the state government to implement the policy, ENPSTA said if the present trend continues, the standard of education will suffer and the very purpose of introducing and imparting PSTE training will hold no water. The efforts of the PSTE trained teachers will also be deemed wasted and unutilised, the ENPSTA added.
In the interest of the trained teachers, the association pointed out that in case of any vacancy within the four districts, “no outsider should be entertained to hold the same for appointment,” and the first priority should be given to professionally trained teachers, especially from the backward areas. The association has also demanded the state government to make the appointments directly without interviews for the diploma holders “provided that it will be on a regular basis.”
