Phuvkiu Village | January 13
In the continuing effort to empower and develop its student community, the Yimchungrü Akherü Arihako (YAA), the apex students’ body of the Yimchungrü tribe held its 48th general conference from January 8-12 at Phuvkiu village under Pungro sub-division in Kiphire district with the theme ‘Explore yourself and inspire others.’ At the same time, Phuvkiu Village Students’ Union also observed its golden jubilee with the theme ‘Celebrating deliverance.’
The YAA conference concluded on a high note with Parliamentary secretary for CAWD, R Tohanba, as the guest of honour in the valedictory function held Sunday night.
“Education opens the windows to the world. A society advances according to the progress in education. Education is the only instrument which will open the eyes of ignorance and deliver people from the bondage of ignorance”, the parliamentary secretary said in his address.
Tohanba said there is a paradigm shift in the field of education - its objectives and approaches. Likewise, the interest and aspirations of people and society have also drastically changed from simple to complex ones.
“Now your education should not be focused on government jobs alone but prepare your mindset towards developing your skills for earning your livelihood through diverse fields of interests”, Tohanba said.
He added that to develop a society and to move ahead depends on how students contribute their positive thoughts and ideas. Stating that students are always on the move in search of new knowledge and understanding new ideas, he encouraged them to explore their own potentialities and try to develop those potentialities to the fullest through the system of education available to them at different stages.
“Explore yourself and inspire others is a very relevant theme to that end. You can never be an inspiration to others until and unless you explore who you are and what you are. You need to develop your skills and potentialities by sincerely imbibing the right kind of education. Only when you explore yourself and understand your strength and live and do accordingly will others learn good things from your life and actions”, Tohanba stated.
Stating that education is a lifelong and continuous process, the parliamentary secretary also reminded the students of Robert Frost’s inspirational quote “Miles to go before I sleep” and said that if students sleep before they reach their destination, then the world will leave them behind.
Further, Tohanba stressed on maintaining unity and cultural bonds among the six-dialect speaking people constituting the Yimchungrü tribe.
Deputy Commissioner, Kiphire district, Kesonyu Yhome also exhorted the students. Parliamentary secretary for Excise, Economics & Statistics and LM&CP, T Torechu and host of district administration officials, public leaders and elders attended the closing function.
