Dimapur, February 12 (MExN): The Department of Land Resources, Dimapur district organized one-day exposure trip for Dimapur district coffee farmers to Regional Coffee Research Station (RCRS) at Diphu, Assam on February 10. 

A press release received here stated that sponsored by the Coffee Board of India, the exposure trip was conducted with the objective of preparing the coffee farmers to engage themselves in proper planning for harvesting the coffee cherries as it helps in yielding best quality and quantity harvest and reap good economic returns. 

“While at the same time it was vital to educate the farmers on harvesting the coffee cherries without causing any damage to the tree,” the release added. 

Accompanied by Watershed Development Team members of LRD Dimapur District, Lenin Girisa and Asungla Jamir, in total nine coffee farmers from four villages including Ghotovi, Hozukhe, Toshezu and Kuhoxu participated in the trip. 

With major emphasis laid on post management of coffee, the farmers were educated on topics which included- calendar operations for Coffee estate, importance of plant training and pruning in coffee and processing of coffee for better quality. 

Resource persons from Coffee Board of India included- Bijaya Barman (Officer in-charge, RCRS, Diphu), PT Jayan (Extension Officer, Coffee Board, Diphu) and Sandip Das (Extension Inspector, RCRS, Diphu).

It may mention here that the Department of Land Resources has been appointed as the Nodal Department for the promotion/plantation of coffee in the State since 2016-17.
