FAC faculty get insights into research paper publications

Mokokchung, September 22 (MExN): Insights into science and social science researches were given during a one-day workshop on “Research Paper Publications” organised by the Research Development Committee, Fazl Ali College (FAC), Mokokchung on September 21.

In the first session, Dr Suraiya Tabassum,  Associate Professor, Sarojini Naidu Centre for Women’s Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi shared on  ‘Social Science Research: An introduction and insights.’

During her presentation, she emphasised that social science research should explore, investigate, and incorporate policy recommendations in a wholesome way so that the researchers are able to draw light to the realities of the research subjects. 

Dr Tabassum further dwelt on initiating research with the motivation and with a clear intent of heart and mind to bring about a change in the social system with the research that we pursue. 

Among others, she noted said that a researcher must be open to any element of surprise in the course of the findings, have built-in reality checks as well to stay in charge of methodologies.

A strong theoretical framework is needed to navigate the literature reviews, research tools and analyses, she underscored. 

 After her presentation, more insights and doubts were addressed during the participatory Q & A session which was moderated by Dr. Temjennaro Jamir, Assistant Professor, Department of Education.

Presenting ‘Research Paper Publications – Perspectives in Science’  in the second session, Dr Toka Swu, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, Pondicherry University emphasised of the importance of foundational knowledge, gathered information on methodologies/techniques, and a positive attitude.

Taking cues from his own research and publications, he elaborated on the research writing techniques that every research needs to heed to so as to avoid any setbacks during the course of writing and submission for publications. 

Dr Swu further demonstrated use Mendeley App, a free citation tool, and Turnitin, a plagiarism detection service, for ease of referencing in research articles/reviews and to check plagiarism, respectively. The second session concluded with a Q & A session moderated by Dr Aolemla Pongener, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany.

The first session was hosted by Dr Aotemshi I, Assistant Professor, Department of Maths while Dr. Imliwati Longkumer, Assistant Professor, Department hosted the second session. 

Earlier, FAC Vice Pricipal R Arenla Aier, while welcoming the resource persons, highlighted the significance and need of research-oriented activities and publications for academic institutions.  Dr Lanurela, FAC IQAC Coordinator gave the concluding remarks. 

A total of 55 FAC faculty and participants from other colleges joined the workshop, informed a press release the Information and Publicity Cell, FAC. 

FAC’s webinar discusses pre-colonial Naga polity

Mokokchung, September 22 (MExN): The Political Science Association (PSA) under the Department of Political Science, Fazl Ali College (FAC) Mokokchung organised a Webinar on the topic “Pre-Colonial Naga Polity: Powers and Functions of Village Council” on September 21 via Google Meet.

During the webinar, the Resource person Dr A Nshoga, Principal, Peren Government College, highlighted the different forms of governments amongst different Naga tribes in the past guided by conventions and customary laws on varied subjects.  Faculty from the college, students and participants from other institutions actively participated in the session, informed a press release from the Information and Publicity Cell, FAC.
