Imphal | September 8 : The Imphal Bench of the Gauhati High Court has directed the governments of Manipur and Nagaland to respond within September 29 on the writ petition filed on the alleged disappearance of assistant publicity secretary of the proscribed RPF/PLA.
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the enforced disappearance and arbitrary detention of G Jiteshwar Sharma aka GM Changjou aka Gypsy told the media today that Gurumayum Radha (mother of Gypsy) and Gurumayum Sujata (wife) filed a writ petition on September 1 in the Imphal Bench of the Gauhati High Court seeking the revelation on the whereabouts of assistant publicity secretary of PRF/PLA Gypsy from Manipur and Nagaland governments.
Gypsy has been missing since August 18 when he was reportedly picked up from his rented room near SM College in Dimapur at about 7 pm. The JAC informed the media today that Gypsy had sent a text message to his family members saying, “I have been arrested by suspected Assam Rifles and NSCN-IM” from a mobile phone before he went untraceable.
The DGP of Manipur had been informed of the incident at Nagaland by the JAC on August 19. However even after 22 days, nothing is getting done, rued the JAC. “GM Changjou should not be viewed as only a leader of the banned RPF/PLA. He is first a human being with a family to look after,” said convener of the JAC S Tamphamani while appealing to the government for justice and fair trial. She added that it is unfortunate the government was unable to trace the mobile number from which the text message was received.
Mrs Tamphamani said that an FIR has been filed at the relevant police station in Nagaland on the enforced disappearance of Gypsy but Manipur government has simply refused to take up the matter with its neighbour. Following a meeting between the JAC and deputy chief minister Th. Debendra at 11:30 am today, the later reportedly assured the former that the matter will be looked into and discussed when chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh returns from his foreign trip on September 8.
The JAC has therefore set September 9 as deadline for the government to seriously start considering about revealing the whereabouts of the PLA leader. If the state government is unable to address the issue, the JAC said it will resort to agitation from 6 pm of September 9. The JAC has also appealed to the general public and political parties to extend support in the fight against the enforced disappearance of GM Changjou.
