Ghowoto Village alleges attack by ‘armed mercenaries’

Dimapur, August 5 (MExN): A village in Dhansiripar, Ghowoto village, today alleged that “armed mercenaries” from Jalukilo village attacked the village during the wee hours of August 5. The individuals from Jalukilo village were armed and numbered around 50 when they attacked Ghowoto village, the Ghowoto Village Council alleged in a press release received here.  The armed individuals looted, molested some women laborers and then assaulted male laborers at gunpoint and then razed two ‘farm houses’, the council said. The village is said to have reported the incident to Indian Reserve security personnel stationed “at the village”. The IRB responded immediately and arrested two of the alleged perpetrators after a pursuit. The council identified the two as one Histon, son of one Sepoyi of Chozuba village and a Velhuta Chujo, son of a Chekhrolhu Velhuta of Zulhami village.
The council quoted a list of confiscated items from the police. One 12 bore SBBL, a muzzle loading gun, 14 12 bore cartridges, one crude bomb, 200 gms of gunpowder and a torchlight was seized from the possession of the “mercenaries” the council said in its press release, appended by chairman Phuhoto Zhimo.
“The equipment, numbers, timing and modus operandi of the attack clearly indicates that the attack was another failed pre-planned attack of Jalukilo village to massacre the entire populace of Ghowoto village and its properties like they have done to Naga United village,” the council claimed.
The village council listed a number of demands form the authorities in concern. The council has demanded “to book” the arrested individuals for robbery, molestation, assault and battering under relevant sections of the IPC and Arms and Explosives Act and detain them under the National Security Act.
The authorities are asked to thoroughly investigate “whether the two arrested mercenaries and their group are related to what the press release called the “Inavi village massacre” and also promptly arrest the others involved in the attack.
Ghowoto village also demanded penalty for Jalukilo village for the “repeated unprovoked attack” on the village and for violation of restraining orders issued by the district administration. The council wants the accused village to be derecognized “after making them to adequately compensate” for the loss and damage to properties caused during the alleged attack.
Meanwhile a press note from the Dimapur Police has informed that IRB personnel deployed at Ghowoto village had apprehended two persons Histon Renga and Velhuta Chujo on suspicion of causing mischief by fire destroying houses and property at the paddy fields of the Gowoto villagers. The press note from the police informed that an FIR was received at the Sub-Urban police station about the incident from the Chairman of Ghowoto Village Council.  Also according to the police, the two arrested persons stated that they were told that a new village was to be established at the land bordering Jalukilo B village and they had come to Jalukilo B village in the month of July 2011 to claim a share of land in the new village.
