Great-grand old Naga woman dies at 112 yrs

MOKOKCHUNG, SEPTEMBER (DIPR): Medemmakla, perhaps the oldest person in Nagaland State, who passed away at Mokokchung town on 2nd September 2011, was laid to rest today. She was 112 years and is survived by four children, 18 grand children and 38 great-grand children. During funeral service at her residence at Mokokchung town, the people of Mokokchung town accorded her a tearful farewell.
Pastor P. Toshi, Mokokchung Town Baptist Church, who led the funeral service described late Great-Great-Grand Mother as a God gifted mother and called upon the mourners to emulate her.
Late Medemmakla, the youngest of the five siblings was born during late autumn season in the year 1899 in Mongchen village of Changkikong range, Mokokchung district. After early education at Impur, late Medemmakla came to Mokokchung and joined in Civil Hospital as an apprentice with a pay of Rs 15/- per month. Seeing her intelligence, she was granted study leave with pay to Berry White Medical School, Dibrugarh to undergo formal training. After completion of two years training she joined the same hospital as a Mid-wife. She served in the Hospital till 1937. In 1932 she married late Takojungba Yaden of Merangkong village who was serving at that time as Dobashi under the British government. They were blessed with five children.
