Greenwood School students visit NU for educational tour

Faculty and students of Greenwood School during an educational tour at Nagaland University, Medziphema campus on March 24.

Dimapur, March 25 (MExN): A total of 115 students from Greenwood School, Kuda Village, Dimapur, accompanied by four teachers, visited the School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS), Nagaland University, Medziphema campus on an educational tour on March 24.

During the visit, the students explored the Educational Museum and the college library, where they were briefed on the functioning of the library, systems in place, and the dos and don’ts to be followed.

The students also interacted with scientists from the All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on honeybees and pollinators, gaining insights into the importance of pollinators, particularly honeybees, in agriculture.

At the Department of Entomology, the students visited the Insect Museum, where they were introduced to the diversity of insect pests, different orders of insects, beneficial species, and major pests affecting agricultural crops. This was followed by a visit to the Disease Museum in the Department of Plant Pathology, where they learned about various plant diseases.

The visit provided an opportunity for interactive learning and helped deepen the students’ understanding and appreciation of innovative methods and research in the agriculture sector, thereby enhancing their knowledge and career prospects.

The field trip concluded with an interaction session with the Dean (in-charge), Prof K K Jha, at the Medziphema campus.

The visit was coordinated by Dr Lowrence Kithan, Scientist, AICRP on Kharif Pulses; Dr Waluniba, Assistant Professor, Department of Entomology; Dr Sentinaro, Guest Faculty, Department of Horticulture; and Dr Kevineituo Bier, Assistant Professor, Department of Soil Science, SAS, Nagaland University, Medziphema Campus.
