The Biosafety Level-3 lab at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima has received the approval from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) based on validation of documentation and quality control test run.

Informing this, Secretary for Health & Family Welfare, Kesonyü Yhome said, testing of clinical sample for Covid-19 can begin as soon as reagents required for testing are supplied by the ICMR.

A reagent is a substance used to carry out a laboratory test. It's a compound added to a system to cause a chemical reaction or added to test if a reaction occurs.

When enquired when the reagent are likely to be supplied, Yhome maintained that "it will not be possible for anyone to actually give an accurate timeline because ICMR does not give any such indication or tentative date."

"In this one we are also equally as curious as you all are. Hopefully it will not be unduly long," added Yhome.

He further informed that civil work for BSL-2 at CIHSR, Dimapur is going on. Yhome also informed that requisite human resource are put in place for the functioning of the lab.
