Inherence of indigenous knowledge has led us this far: Advisor Yhome

Advisor School Education & SCERT Nagaland, Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome said it was because of the inherence of indigenous knowledge in our ancestors that our traditions and cultural practices have been brought to us this far. 

Speaking at the Tsütuonuomia Khel Day organized at mission compound, Kohima on October 25, Dr Yhome said, ‘our forefathers had the endurance and bold attitude, despite shortcomings. One of the biggest fear, inherent within our forefathers, was the fear of strangers or outsiders like the Britishers or mainland Indians who had come to India during the crown rule period.’ Yhome said this was also one reason which attributes to preserving our traditions and cultures. 

The history of the Nagas, he opined were mostly oral narration rather than scripted. And like many entities, most of what is spoken about forefathers and ancestors were praises.

Speaking about the present juncture, Yhome said, ‘it has come a time for us to exist and coexist with the emerging world alongside a broadened perspective.’ The Advisor said, similarly in the preceded 140-150 years, Kohima village or the khel, have emerged and considerably changed its outlook building friendships and ties which otherwise were involved in wars and enmity with neighbouring states or villages or the Britishers.

Our society cannot progresswithout love & unity: Dr Rhütso

Dr Tseilhoutuo Rhütso, MLA, Kohima delivering an address said, Tsütuonuomia Khel Day is ‘a day to remind us about how our elders chose love and unity over war and enmity for the betterment and posterity of our people.’

He said irrespective of it being a day of significance or celebration or any other usual day, we have to understand that our society cannot progress without love and unity. 

Observing that in the present time, there were many abled leaders in different sectors and organization, Rhütso said if everyone comes together and collectively work towards a common goal, it will richly benefit not only our communities but Nagas at large. Such collective living can be an example for others by not only bringing a name to the T Khel clan but as 'Kewhimia'. 

The MLA while calling to use the blessings for doing good and bring positive changes, said the same, if used for ulterior motive will not only bring bad name for the clan but tags the village name as a whole. 

Thanking the people for supporting and electing him to the assembly during the preceded general election this year, Dr Rhütso said it was because of their trust and blessing that he had emerged victorious. The MLA said his constituency cannot be successful in fulfilling its aspiration without the support of the khel. In this regard, he assured to give back to the people by doing his best and rendering services in whatever ways possible. 

Tsütuonuomia flag and Chienuo (clan) flags were hoisted during the programme and the guest inaugurated Nousi Ki (Rostrum). The greetings was delivered by Helievi-o Solo, Chairman, Kohima Village Council and Vikuolie T Zatsu, Advisor, T Khel Council gave the welcome address. K Neibou Sekhose, Chairman T Khel Council gave the chairman address. Dr Rev Rachülie Vihienuo, Executive Director, Angami Baptist Church Council invoked blessings during the programme. Kelhousinyü Solo, Vice Chairman have the vote of thanks. Songs were presented by Methaneilie Jütakhrie, T Khel Choir and Thejanuo Solo.
