Major IMFL haul in Dimapur

Dimapur, April 30 (MExN): The Dimapur District Excise duty party manning the Excise Newfield Checkpost have seized huge consignments of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) and arrested two persons in the past 24 hours.

Acting on tip offs, the team intercepted two Manipur-bound trucks and recovered a total of 712 cases of IMFL, a press release from the Dimapur Superintendent of Excise & Prohibition informed on Friday.

In the first incident, the team frisked a truck bearing registration number NL 02Q 4102 and recovered 215 cases of assorted IMFL, concealed under pharmaceuticals products. In this connection, one Md Nawash Khan (25) of Bishnupur district, Manipur was arrested.

The same team intercepted another truck bearing registration number AS 01JC 4897 and recovered 497 cases of assorted IMFL concealed under construction materials and raw materials for making water bottles. One Md Anish Khan (32) of Manipur’s Thoubal district was arrested in this connection.

Upon enquiry, the contraband IMFL was loaded at 9th mile Guwahati, Assam and was bound for Imphal, Manipur, the release stated, adding that the case is currently under further investigation.

It has been observed that there has been a recent spurt in the trafficking of such contrabands along the NH-29 and efforts are on to heighten the vigil and surveillance along this route, the release stated.
