Protests against the controversial Citizen’s Amendment Bill (CAB) reached the house of Tura MP, Agatha Sangma on Wednesday with a protest led by students ending up at the door of her house to question her support to the Bill.

CAB protests also rocked South Garo Hills district with rallies being held at Gasuapara and Baghmara. While the rally in Gasuapara was led by the local NGOs, the GSU and the Congress spearheaded the movement in Baghmara.

In Tura, more than 600 students, mostly from the Tura Government College led by the FKJGP cell in the college and ASWA from the Chandmary playground to the house of Agatha at Walbakgre. Students from the Don Bosco College and Durama College were also part of the rally today.

The rally was coordinated by the FKJGP, GSU, AYWO and ADE.

“We are very unhappy with the stance of the Tura MP on the matter and are completely against the Bill. We condemn her betrayal of Garos and want the Modi led NDA government to completely scrap the Bill,” said FKJGP general secretary, Raksrang Sangma.

The rallyists protested on bikes and cars which reached the residence of Agatha Sangma chanting slogans of ‘BJP down and Agatha down’. Earlier, last night, the MPYC burnt effigies of the Tura MP in front of Agatha’s residence.
Prior to the meeting, the protestors held a meeting at the Chandmary Playground then moved through William Point, DC Office, Tura Bazaar and returned to William point.

“The rally was also attended by people from Tura. We wanted to express our frustration on the passing of CAB in Lok Sabha. This act of betrayal by the Tura MP will not be easily forgotten,” said NESO additional general secretary, Manseng Sangma who was also part of the bike rally.
