Following reports of recent tensions between and Meluri Village of Nagaland and Jessami Village of Manipur, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Meluri has informed that the situation has been ‘brought under control.
Jessami is a village in the extreme north of Ukhrul district in Manipur and borders with Meluri village in Phek district, Nagaland.
According to reports, on April 12, the Jessami Village Council had submitted a representation to the governor of Manipur stating that villagers and village guards of Meluri, Nagaland had trespassed into the Jessami Village and alleged that Meluri Village Guards were patrolling inside Manipur with 303 rifles.
The Village Council had also reportedly registered an FIR on April 12 at Jessami Police Station and reported to SDO Jessami and Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul.
On April 20, Meluri ADC, Furhesie Nyuwi informed The Morung Express that the situation has been brought under control with the involvement of district administration and police from both Phek and Ukhrul districts.
The village councils of both Meluri and Jessami have also reportedly “agreed to come to a negotiating table in order to solve the current issue.”
