Dimapur | February 23
The groundwork for negotiations between the Government of India and the Niki Sumi-led group of the NSCN (K) appears to be underway.
A seemingly confidential letter dated February 22 and purportedly issued by the Cease Fire Supervisory Board, Kohima, which emerged on social media on February 23, stated that the Ministry of Home Affairs has approved setting up of a “temporary camp” at Suruhoto, Zunheboto and two locations in Dimapur, which respectively function as a “temporary Ceasefire office” and a place for Sumi to stay with security cover by his own cadre.
“The above has been approved as a first step on the process of Ceasefire. All demands for other camps will be considered in due course of time with progress of ceasefire negotiations,” the letter said.
It also requested Sumi to initiate “on priority” relocation of his cadre, said to be temporarily sheltered in Meluri, to the Suruhuto camp.
