N-Naga DAO upset over RRE posters in Assamese

Dimapur, July 1 (MExN): The Network of Nagaland Drugs and AIDS Organization (N-Naga DAO) while appreciating all the stakeholders for Red Ribbon Express (RRE), has also expressed its “big disappointment” over the IEC( posters, audio visual, phone line etc) in Assamese.

“In the context of Nagaland, English is the common medium of communication. Along with Assamese (or any other regional language), English could also be another option. This could have served the purpose better of reaching the message to the maximum.

"It is important to take into account the diverse context/culture/language/people in this vast country while undertaking such campaigns of reaching nook and corners of India,” stated the President N-Naga DAO, Khriebu Nakhro in a press note.

The note also stated that the broad objectives of the RRE are to provide communication and a service package to rural population and reach un-reached areas in rural areas.

Moreover, it added that the RRE is a comprehensive multi-sectoral, multi-media, multi-theme and unique campaign ever in the area of HIV/AIDS communication so as to make it a holistic and comprehensive campaign to mobilize public opinion in the collective fight against HIV/AIDS.

Further it mentioned that based on the experience of the Lifeline express launched by the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation (RGF), which provides health care services to rural population round the year, The Red Ribbon Express (RRE) was conceived.

The concept was further developed into a national campaign to mainstream the issue of HIV/AIDS and jointly developed by the RGF, NACO and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS). NACO, Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Indian Railways, UNICEF and State AIDS Control Societies (SACS) are the major partners. Many Government Ministries / Departments such as rural development, Panchayati Raj, Youth affairs and sports, Women and Child development, Education department, Information and Broadcasting and Urban development play a crucial role in reaching the target audience, the note added.
