Dimapur | August 22 : In a significant development indicative of an increasing understanding of three Naga political groups, the NSCN/GPRN, NNC/FGN and GPRN/NSCN have agreed to “strengthen and broaden” the peace process based on the “uniqueness of Naga history.”
In continuation of the highest level meeting, leaders of the three political groups met again at Niathu Resort, Chumukedima, on Monday under the aegis of Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR).
After the meeting, leaders of the three groups issued a brief statement, which stated that “in the spirit of love, respect and understanding” the leaders have agreed to “strengthen and broaden the peace process” based on the uniqueness of Naga history.
The joint statement was signed by NSCN/GPRN Chairman Isak Chishi Swu and General Secretary Th. Muivah, GPRN/NSCN Chairman ‘Gen’ (Retd) Khole Konyak and General Secretary Kitovi Zhimomi and NNC/FGN President ‘Brig’ (Retd) S Singnya and Vice President Zhopra Vero.
The latest statement comes two days after the three Naga political groups resolved to leave the past behind and look forward to a shared Naga future.
It may be mentioned that the FNR had in earlier public meetings stated that since the signing of the Covenant of Reconciliation (CoR) and “rejection of any form of conditional package offered to Nagas by the Government of India,” a “confederation” of sorts was required for “common interests and actions of Nagas.”
Later addressing a press conference, FNR members said that while the first meeting (August 20) focused on “repentance and forgiveness”, today’s meeting has gone a step further.
FNR convenor Rev. Dr. Wati Aier said that the question in every Naga mind is “Now that you (political groups) have forgiven each other, what is the next step?”
FNR also informed that a series of meetings would be held with the Naga political groups “until we reach a concrete conclusion.”

None will be excluded: FNR
On absence of the NSCN (Khaplang) group in the recent meetings, the FNR has reiterated that none would be excluded in the reconciliation process and that FNR had never tried to sideline any group. “Whatever it is, I think the Naga people have missed him (SS Khaplang) and we long to see him very soon,” FNR Convenor Rev. Dr Wati Aier said.
