Rev Yankey Patton

Kohima, January 28 (MExN): Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Deputy CM Y Patton have mourned the demise of former Nagaland State Chaplain Rev Yankey Patton in at his private residence in Diphupar, Dimapur on January 28.
In his condolences, Rio described Rev Yankey as one of the most well-known and respected pastors in Nagaland known for his dedication and humility. He was the first State Chaplain in 1989 and continued hold the position till 2002.
During his earlier days as a State Chaplain, no Government's facilities were given to him, not even a vehicle for his movement, Rio said. So, holding his humble umbrella, and walking on foot, he used to visit the Legislators at their respective homes. Such was the degree of his sense of duty and humility, he added.
The CM also described Rev Yankey as a very honest and courageous servant of God, “always saying the hard truth, including those that are uncomfortable to say.”
“In his death, the State has lost a stalwart in the field of Church and public service, and the void created by his death will be difficult to fill. However, we feel comforted in the knowledge that he is now with the Lord, whom he had served faithfully throughout his life,” he added.
Rio further conveyed condolences to the members of the bereaved family; and pray that Almighty God grant them solace and strength in their hours of bereavement.
Deputy CM Patton also termed Rev Yankey as “one true dedicated servant of God and a very outspoken revivalist.”
From a young age he committed his life to take up the cross and carried it till his death, Patton noted, further informing that late Rev Yankey had served as pastor in various churches including Wokha Town Baptist Church, Missionary at Large and also Executive Secretary of Lotha Baptist Churches Association from 1975 to 1980.
In his death the Nagas have lost a patriarch whose spiritual guidance and exceptional life will illuminate our paths, he added.
Along with his wife and family, Patton also extended condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace.
