Nagaland: Field trainers’ training for Census 2027 begins

Dimapur/Phek, May 27 (MExN): Preparatory activities for the Census of India 2027 gathered pace in Nagaland on Wednesday with the commencement of separate three-day Field Trainers Training programmes in Dimapur and Phek districts.

In Dimapur, the training programme for officials from Dimapur, Niuland, Chümoukedima, Peren and Mon districts began at the Circuit House under the Office of the Deputy Commissioner and Principal Census Officer, Dimapur. The programme will continue till May 29.

Addressing the inaugural session, Deputy Commissioner and Principal Census Officer, Dimapur, Dr Tinojongshi Chang, emphasised preparedness, coordination and accuracy in carrying out Census responsibilities. He noted that Census 2027 would mark a major transition with the adoption of digital platforms, mobile applications and Artificial Intelligence for data collection and monitoring.

Dr Chang informed that the first phase scheduled from July 1 to 30, 2026 will undertake House Listing and Housing Census while self-enumeration will be available from June 15 to 30. The Population Enumeration phase is slated for February 2027.

As per the State DIPR, the training includes sessions on Census concepts, legal provisions, layout map preparation, verification of House Listing Blocks and use of the HLO mobile application. 

Participants will also undergo practical exercises, field visits and modules on data security and public interaction.

Meanwhile, a similar training programme for Field Trainers from Phek, Meluri and Kiphire districts commenced at the DC Conference Hall, Phek.

Deputy Commissioner and Principal Census Officer, Phek, Rhosietho Nguori stressed professionalism, uniform understanding of Census concepts and strict adherence to SOPs during data collection. ADC and District Census Officer, Phek, Thejakhrienuo Nisa highlighted the important role of Field Trainers in ensuring smooth Census operations.

The training programmes form part of nationwide preparations for Census 2027, with emphasis on digital enumeration, standardised procedures and field preparedness.
