Nagaland Governor stresses on improving health care services

Nagaland Governor RN Ravi today said that human resource can only be improved if the people are, “equipped with quality health and quality education services.” Stating that human resource is the most important asset of the society, Ravi lamented that the state has seen a gradual decline in spite of having rich natural resource endowment. 

"We need to do a lot of catching up and improve our health infrastructure and delivery in our state by building a good human resource,” he maintained.

The Governor was speaking at the felicitation programme for Dr Yingngam Wangnaolim who secured the third position in Masters Course for Obstetrics and Gynaecology from Kerala University of Health Sciences in 2020.

Addressing the gathering that at Dr Imkongliba Ao Hall, Raj Bhavan Kohima today, Ravi hoped that in the next two years when the country would be celebrating the 75th year of Independence, the people of Nagaland would have access to better health services.

The Governor commended Dr Yingngam for her resolve and hard work and called her an inspiration for the youth of Nagaland. Coming from a modest background, she has proved that with determination and hard work nothing is impossible, Ravi said as he encouraged Dr Yingngam to be a mentor to the aspiring students of the State. Ravi advised her to visit high schools, especially in the rural areas, meet students and inspire them by sharing her experience
Dr Yingngam attributed her achievement to God's guidance and the sacrifices made by her parents apart from receiving quality education, scholarships and career opportunities from her home state. Sharing her experiences in the journey towards becoming a doctor, Dr Yingngam revealed that she had cleared the NPSC exams in 2018 as a medical officer, and had applied for study leave to pursue higher education.  

Minister of Health & Family Welfare (H&FW), Pangnyu Phom delivered an appreciation speech in which he called Dr Yingngam, a daughter of Nagaland, and thanked her for making the State proud. Principal Secretary H&FW AS Bhatia gave the introductory address and Commissioner & Secretary, Mhabemo Yanthan pronounced the vote of thanks.

Dr Yingngam Wangnaolim of Chenloisho village did her schooling from Little Flower Higher Secondary School, Kohima and higher secondary from Kohima Science College. From there she joined the MBBS programme at Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital, Bihar and went on to become a Medical Surgeon from Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Government Medical College, Kottayam, Kerela. 

The felicitation programme was attended by MLA CL John, the awardee's parents, KNSK and Konyak Union Kohima unit, Chen Area Union Kohima and Konyak Baptist Church Kohima besides other department officials and well wishers.
