‘Bithobirhi Nyi’ - To Revive & Refine

The Vihutsumia Youth Organization (VYO) of Mezoma village today observed ‘Bithobirhi Nyi’ (Festival of Handicraft & Handloom) at Kudagei, Mezoma under the theme “To Revive & Refine.”

Mezoma village lies around 18 km from Nagaland’s state capital Kohima.

The festival was marked by wood carving, cane and bamboo works, weaving and folk tune.

“During the olden days, our forefathers were very hard working. Majority of them engage in making handicraft and handloom. They earn livelihood by engaging themselves in this sector,” said Kevisetuo Rhitso, advisor VYO.

However, he said, with the evolving of generation and time, the present generation are not taking much interest in handloom and handicraft.

Viewing this, VYO had organized ‘Bithobirhi Nyi’ with a vision and objective to revive and refine the handicraft and handloom sector. “This event is also aim at safeguarding and preserving our identity, our culture, our custom and tradition,” he added. The festival also propagated the importance of work culture.

Once we are well equipped and well verse in the skilling sector, there are ample scope of opportunity to sustain our livelihood and become a successful entrepreneur, Rhitso maintained.


 
‘Skill development help build employment prospects’
Petehetuo Miasalhou, Principal, Nagaland Tool Room & Training Centre (NTTC) Dimapur, highlighted the emerging trends in skill development.

Gracing the festival as the special guest, Miasalhou maintained that skill development help build employment prospects and livelihood. In this, he called upon the youth to grab the various skills development related programme being extended by the government and other private agencies.

Also subscribing that handloom and handicraft sector contributes to economic growth and social stability, he called upon the youth to upgrade their skills and get maximum benefit.

Miasalhou also stressed on the need to adopt comprehensive network marketing for successful business venture.

Ruovi Kuotsu, President, Vihutsumia Mechü Kehou maintained that work culture strengthens physical, mental and social well being. He encouraged the youth to engage themselves with any nature of work to secure a healthy and positive mindset.

Ruokoneiu Lhousa, President, Vihutsumiapfü Mechü Kehou also highlighted the scope of handloom weavers. Earlier, Rüülhoukho, Catechist, Catholic Church Mezoma invoked God’s blessing. The programme was chaired by Megolhouto Hieme while welcome address was delivered by VYO president Rokovoto Khawakhrie. Meanwhile, VYO is planning to make this ‘Bithobirhi Nyi’ as an annual feature.
