NCSU issues 30-day ultimatum to review contractor registration rules

Kohima, March 25 (MExN): The Nagaland Contractors & Suppliers Union (NCSU) has demanded a review of the new registration rules for contractors issued by the state government, warning of agitation if its demands are not met within 30 days.

In a memorandum submitted to the Commissioner & Secretary, Works & Housing, the union termed the new rules “completely impossible” and claimed they would ruin the contractor fraternity in the state.

The decision was taken during a general body meeting held on March 24 at the union’s head office in Kohima, where members deliberated on the government notification dated February 20, 2026. It stated that the union had “thoroughly examined and deliberated the new rules of registration of various categories of Contractors under the State Government and found that the criteria of the new rules are completely impossible as it would ruin the career of the contractors’ fraternity in our State.”

The NCSU stated that it “cannot accept the new rules” unless finalised point by point along with the union officials. The union further alleged that the registration criteria were “anti-poor” and against unemployed youths seeking to register as contractors.

The memorandum, signed by NCSU President Pele Khezhie and General Secretary John Kath, urged the authorities to take up the matter seriously and review the new rules within 30 days from the date of submission.

“Failing which, the NCSU has no other option but to resort to agitation in due course,” the union stated.
