Coinciding with the World Mother Language Day, P Alem Jamir’s latest book in Ao Naga language ‘Mamatetba Küm Tatem Benjung’ (roughly translated as ‘Unforgettable School Annual Day Fest) was unveiled on February 21.
A work of fiction for children, the book was officially released by Ao Senden Literature Board Secretary, I Temjen Tzüdir at the Unity Village Ao Baptist Church (UVABA), 4th Mile, Dimapur.
On the occasion, Tzüdir noted that the release of the book on the World Mother Language Day was a big achievement for both the author as well as Ao language. UVABA Pastor L Panger Jamir later dedicated the book.
Meanwhile, Alem Jamir said that reading is one of the most fundamental skills children need for overall development and he decided to write the book after hearing concerns from many parents regarding the dwindling reading culture among their kids in the digital age.
He further expressed hope that the book, written in simple language, about relatable events in school, which every child experiences, will give new knowledge as well as inculcate reading habits from a young age.
The book, therefore, narrates the events in simple narration and also features illustrations, he added.
Further, noting that reading develops vocabulary, he informed that concerted efforts were made to explain and translate unfamiliar and new words into English with footnote on relevant pages.
The 100-page book, a fictional account a series of events in a school culminating with the annual day, is published by Woods Publishers, Kohima and available for Rs 250 per copy.
‘Mamatetba Küm Tatem Benjung’ is Jamir’s ninth book in Ao language, which among others; include a Dictionary of Homonyms in Ao language as well as other fictional and non-fictional works.
