NIPF calls for stringent implementation of ILP

Dimapur, February 24 (MExN): The Nagaland Indigenous People’s Forum (NIPF) has extended its unflinching support to the Chümoukedima Town Youth Organisation (CTYO) in regard to the alarming issue of the increasing population of non-indigenous and illegal migrants in Nagaland, especially in Chümoukedima and corresponding to the city of Dimapur.

The NIPF in its press release expressed dismay at the Government of Nagaland’s delay in the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the whole of Nagaland.

“The Rally in various district headquarters on 19th of March, 2021 is a clear message that the indigenous people of Nagaland is much concerned about the future and safety of the people of Nagaland which can soon be overwhelmed by the Non-indigenous people as well as illegal migrants like our neighboring districts of Assam and States like Tripura and Sikkim,” it stated.

The NIPF called for the stringent implementation of the ILP, streamlining its mechanisms and proper sensitization of the district administrations in the state.

“Who is responsible for selling ILPs like a commodity? What is the actual reality and who is gaining by selling the future of the Nagas? We need workers and labourers but work permits should be limited and issued only genuinely. Temporary/seasonal visitors cannot be allowed to become permanent settlers,” it stated.

The Forum also added that “Indigenous people should inculcate work culture so that we can rely on ourselves instead of depending on outsiders. All hands on deck for the seriousness of this issue. Eradicate Dalal and Paper systems, enforce Online System or else leakage and corruption will destroy our future.”

Therefore, NIPF appealed “to the Government to hear and honor the genuine voice of the people before it is too late.”
