Dimapur, October 28 (MExN): The Nagaland Medical Dealers Association (NMDA) has appealed the Department of Municipal Affairs, Government of Nagaland and DMC Employees Welfare Union (DMCEWU) to resolve the issues so that the people of Dimapur can continue with their normal life.
In a press release on Friday, the NMDA stated that it appreciates the understanding that came about between the two parties which resulted in the suspension of the DMCEWU’s proposed indefinite strike till November 8.
“This development provides a sign of relief to the people of Dimapur as the intended strike is going to have severe impact on the functioning of the city and the NMDA appeals to all the parties involved to resolve the issue at the earliest, as this impacts the entire city, so that the people of Dimapur can continue with their normal life,” it said.
At the same time, the NMDA also noted that the looming fear of the strike also raises questions as to why the DMC employees need to suffer despite the households and the business establishments paying their sanitation fees, renewal fees of trade licenses etc., and how the funds available with the Department from different sources, including those sufficient funds received from Government of India from time to time, are being utilized.
The situation is truly unfair to the general populace, the NMDA stated while noting that this is a time when the prevalence of dengue and other air borne diseases is widespread and the piling up of garbage, in case the strike takes place, would only add to the problem and accelerate the cases.
Meanwhile, the NMDA extended its appreciation to the Governor of Nagaland on closure of all the toll gates and emphasized that it is “strictly against the reopening of any toll gates in the future too.”
